Women of the Republic Exhibition 1923-2023
Fraport TAV Antalya Airport and TAV Airports organised an exhibition "Women of the Republic: 1923-2023" organised for the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye. The exhibition, created in cooperation with the Women’s Library and Information Centre Foundation, was on display at Ankara Esenboğa, Izmir Adnan Menderes and Antalya airports until the 1st November 2023.
The aim of the exhibition is to make women visible as a social and historical group struggling and trying to construct themselves in education, health, working life and the private sphere; to bring to light the stories and achievements of women in the modernisation of the Republic, who, despite the difficulties and impossibilities, created a wide range of values in all areas of society; to visualise that women, as subjects shaping the public sphere, present a plural, colourful and rich profile and to ensure that this historical continuity, albeit with interruptions, takes its place in the memories of today’s generations.
The exhibition includes the first female pilot Sabiha Gökçen, the first female provincial mayor Müfide İlhan, the first female conductor of classical Western music İnci Özdil, the first female academician of Ankara University Faculty of Theology, images of many pioneering women, such as historian and political scientist Bahriye Üçok, the first female governor Leyla Aytaman, the first female opera singer, and many others, with their ’moments’ and representations recorded in different places and spaces such as hospitals, schools, factories, fields, courses, stages, libraries, libraries, airplanes and workshops.
